Jquery check if datagrid contains string

I want to check the first column of a datagrid to see if contains the string "magsub" or "magsub2" and if it does display a div that is currently set to hidden?

Thsi is the code for the datagrid:

To select a particular cell, you can reference them with an index:

$('#PackageItems tr').each(function() {
   var customerId = $(this).find("td").eq(2).html();    
}

In the above code, I will be retrieving the value of the third row (the index is zero-based, so the first cell index would be 0)

Which row? All or any? Also show us the rendered code i.e. do view source and post the result (first few rows).

Any row, so basically if the string  "magsub" or "magsub2" is in the first column at all on any row I want to set a div to display

Did you try my approach ?

lets say you have a div that is hidden initially

<div id="newDiv"> This is a hidden division </div>

with a slight modification...


$('#PackageItems tr').each(function() {
   var customerId = $(this).find("td").eq(0).html();   
   if ( customerId == '' || customerId == '' ) {
       // display the div
       $('#newDiv').slideToggle("slow"); // this gives some animation effect
 
        // or you can also try 
       // $('#newDiv').show();  // no animation effect.
      
 
   }

couple of things -

  1. Are you able to get the value of itemID? throw an alert and check the value? 
  2. If step one throws an error please post html that is generated.
