Question

Opening same application in more than one Browser

Asked by: karthickkrishnan

Dear Experts,
 I m facing a tough problem ..
 Some one please come for the rescue..

 My problem is,

  I ve same application running on three different machines..
  say 1.1.1.1:7077 (ip address : portno)
      1.1.1.2:7077
      1.1.1.3:7077

   Normally , i access the applications that are running on the above hosts
   by giving the address in the Browser as
  "http://1.1.1.1:7077"

    I need to open all these applications in my system..The problem i face is..
    I m not able to open more than one application .

    supposing if i open the application in 1.1.1.1:7077 in the internet explorer.
    my application opens up nicely. suppose if i want to open the application which is
    in 1.1.1.2:7077 simultaneously, what happens is, the current application gets closed and the latest
    one gets loaded..(ie 1.1.1.2 gets opened)

    So, at one shot, i can access only one application.. But i require all the three applications
    to be viewed ..

    I cud guess one reason for that..
    Since in my applications i open lot of windows.. since in all the three hosts i ve same
    application and obviously, same applications have the same window name..

    i changed the window names,(each differing from the other) in all the hosts... after that i was able to access
    my application simultaneously..But this is not the proper fix for this problem, i know that.

    So,some one please help me to come out of this problem..
    Expecting a solution from one of the experts..
    regards
    karthickkrishnan

what you did was right (i.e. change each window name) and i believe that's the only way you can make your pages work.

Dear third,
  I said i will be running same application on 3 hosts.
All the 3 hosts will be trying to execute the same application.

 and more over, i should have a constant source code for my application..
 I cannot go and change the window name everytime on the source code..depending upon - in how many browsers i m going to open..

 See, supposing, as u suggested to change the window names,
just imagine a case where i install my application on more than 5 or 6 hosts..
and in that case i should go and change the window names for each and every hosts.. that is a real pain.
and more over this one does not sounds good.

so please some one come for my rescue
regards
karthickkrishnan

When you are talking about HTA then you need to generate  APPLICATION ID  dynamically
When you can do this on server-side (ASP or whatever) then fine..
When not you may try something like parsing out last digit of IP and modify window.name from javascript
to make it unique

<HEAD>
  <TITLE>My Monster Application</TITLE>
  <HTA:APPLICATION ID="oMyApp"
    APPLICATIONNAME="monster"
    BORDER="none"
    CAPTION="no"
    ICON="/graphics/creature.ico"
    SHOWINTASKBAR="no"
    SINGLEINSTANCE="yes"
    SYSMENU="no"
    WINDOWSTATE="maximize"
  >
<script>
val host = location.host+"";
s = host.substring(host.lastIndexOf('.')+1);
window.name='oMyApp'+s;
</script>
</HEAD>

you can get the url then add that to your current window name so it will be unique.

for example,

window.open('test.html','win'+window.location.hostname)
