Hi

I got this code from the net, and I'm trying to modify to work in a textarea instead of a text(edit)box. I want the string to continue on the next line (wrap), but I can't even get the string to display on the textarea.

Here's the original code:

I would like to display this in a textarea:

Hi Brakanjan!
Change the following line:
document.write("<INPUT TYPE=\"TEXT\" NAME=\"tickfield\" SIZE=\"30\">");

to:
document.write("<TEXTAREA NAME=\"tickfield\" ROWS=\"5\" COLS=\"30\" WRAP=\"VIRTUAL\" READONLY DISABLED></TEXTAREA>");

This will change it to a Textarea.

As for having each message on a new line - i fear you may have to change the script completely.

use \n to get it to the next line, but you will have to modify the code as 3man8 said so that it will keep wirting the same thing out

Here's a fairly simple fix to get each message on a different line.

Rather than adding messages like this:
tl=new textlist("Message1","Message2","Message3");

Do this:
tl=new textlist("Message1\nMessage2\nMessage3");

seperating each message with \n.

In this way, you can have different groups of messages, like this:

tl=new textlist("Message1\nMessage2\nMessage3","More Messages1!\nMore Messages2!\nMore Messages3!");

I want to insert this code in a form, like:

how should I then call textticker function?

Can I let the textarea always go to the bottom line?

Not as easy as it sounds, but the following should do the job. This is a re-hash of the script, so you're better off starting from scratch:

but then I will never leave the onload function? Can't you just change the textarea whenever the time 'interrupt' occurs?

Sorry Brakanjan - I'm not sure what you mean by 'leaving' the onload function.

The script can only execute when the form has been written to the page. In the original script, it simply called the function after the form, which is a messy and ill-advised method.

If you do not want to use the body onLoad event for whatever reason, you could remove it and place the following at the bottom of your <script> tag:

window.onload=initTicker;
