Date w/o new?

Hi,

Is there a syntax in JavaScript for creating a date without using new Date()?

ie, similar to the way [1,2,3] is interchangeable with new Array(1,2,3)

yep.
you have to use date with parameters.
it can be year,month and so on.

Don't think so.

Why do you need to do that?

You can use:
var myDate = Date();
but that's still using the Date constructor

You both asked why I want to do this...

Just for the same reason I prefer [1,2,3] over new Array(1,2,3)... does the same thing in less space.

...and, of course, "some text" instead of new String("some text") (although this really isn't an equivalent comparison; "some text" creates a string object whereas new String() creates an object object).

Date.parse() returns the number of milliseconds in a date string since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00, local time.

new Date(Date.parse("09/30/2003")) will return a date.
