Question

Random Image Script

Asked by: dlev15

Does anyone have or know a random image script that takes a random picture from a specific directory and put it on a web page in an 800X600 space?  Everytime i refresh the page i would like it to load a new image if possible, or just automatically go through the directory of pics without having to click it to start.  Thanks.

do i put this code in the body of the html document?  Im using dreamweaver to do this.  Im not familiar with ASP so if you could give a little direction as to where to put this code that would really be great...thanks

by: brgivensPosted on 2005-02-02 at 11:36:58ID: 13206848

First, are you running IIS?  ASP requires IIS.  Make sure you rename your page with a .asp extension

In Dreamweaver, copy everything from <script> to </script> right after the </body> tag.

by: dlev15Posted on 2005-02-02 at 13:46:13ID: 13208406

by: brgivensPosted on 2005-02-02 at 14:02:55ID: 13208578

The url will be something like localhost/slideshow.asp

Try opening the page by itself

by: dlev15Posted on 2005-02-02 at 14:06:56ID: 13208616

neither works...there still the syntax error on "var images = [<%" somewhere and i dont know what it is.  I think thats the problem

by: brgivensPosted on 2005-02-02 at 14:14:42ID: 13208692

I'm not sure what the problem is.  I did test the code and it works fine on my system.  There may be a problem with your asp setup.  You might want to read through http://www.asp101.com/wrox/asp2samp/2459ch01.asp

by: dlev15Posted on 2005-02-04 at 08:14:47ID: 13226958

do i have to put anything at the top of the asp code? like an include or something? im really not a programmer so this is chinease to me.

by: dlev15Posted on 2005-02-04 at 08:26:16ID: 13227074

can you show me exactly all the code in yours so i can see if i have everything?

by: brgivensPosted on 2005-02-04 at 08:57:59ID: 13227446

I posted all the code on 02/02/2005 11:12AM.  When you do a view->source do you still see the ASP code (everything between "<%" & "%>")?  If you do, then ASP is not running... go through the "Setting up ASP under IIS" section at http://www.asp101.com/wrox/asp2samp/2459ch01.asp.

by: dlev15Posted on 2005-02-04 at 09:00:36ID: 13227475

yeah im seeing the code

by: brgivensPosted on 2005-02-04 at 09:04:07ID: 13227525

did you go through the "Setting up ASP under IIS"?

by: dlev15Posted on 2005-02-04 at 09:05:44ID: 13227542

my boss said asp is already setup...we have other isp pages that work

by: brgivensPosted on 2005-02-04 at 09:12:28ID: 13227621

It does not seem to be setup on your machine.  The ONLY way you can see ASP code in the source of a page is if ASP is not running.
