The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Hi EE-fellows,

I have a non-standard problem, so the first thing will be to clearly understand, what is my problem:

I have a website for my school and i administrate a forum there, that isn't really at my site but hosted from a totally different place.

The problem:
- The forum software sets (and needs it) a cookie, where the password to the forum stays inside.
- The users can't decide, whether to stay with the login or to automatically disconnected after an idle time - they have to push manually <logout>
- At school, i have a PC room, where the PCs are accessible from all pupils - they have no personal login ... the problem arises, when the pupils (or me) log into the forum and don't hit <logout> afterwards - then all following people (at this PC) may use the forum account without the knowledge of the owner.

Possible solution i see:
- I have access to the HTML-header of this forum webpage, where i have successfully integrated a javascript - so i know that javascript could be used to manipulate the forum programming a bit
- I want to access the cookies with javascript, so that i am able to
       (1) - set automatic logout time after being idle or unused
       (2) - ... or automatic disconnect user if no browser instance referrs to the forum

Please provide possible solutions, so that i understand the code or the problem as a newbie to javascript/cookie-programming .... but you may refer to me as a pro concerning principles of computers and programming

If you want to access the forum (it's german, but you will only have to handle the cookie-problem ;-) ):

Thanks in advance
Holger

PS: It may be, that my request seems unreasonable for some details - please provide me with the apropriate info then
