window.document.body.appendChild --> unexpected call

Hi,

i call the following JavaScript function out of an HTML document and get an error message that says "unexpected call to method or property access".



function initialize()
{
toolbar = window.document.createElement('DIV');
toolbar.innerHTML = 'sdfasf';
window.document.body.appendChild(toolbar);
}

That function seemed to work for me, in IE6 and FF, so i'm not sure what to suggest. Maybe some more info as to how or where you are trying to load/place the div?

I tried it on my own with pure JavaScript and works fine, but my problem is that I trigger the JavaScript through an HTC event.

Here is the line:

<div id="%s" style="behavior:url(_htc/common_editor.htc) url(_htc/html_editor.htc);" caption="%s" description="%s" user="%s">%s</div>.

If there's someone who had a similar problem. I was wondering if anyone knew which conditions has to be fullfilled to call the appendChild method.

you can try

window.document.body.insertAdjacentHTML('BeforeEnd' , '<DIV>sdfasf</DIV>');

you can also use 'BeforeBegin','afterBegin' & 'AfterEnd' where they make sense.

you could get rid of both the window. 's and its still the same :o)

that's IE bug
if u appendChild during loading, u will get that error
put your script after </body>

i dunno about HTC, but u can try


setTimeout("window.document.body.appendChild(toolbar);",100)

or something
