getElementById and innerHTML

I have an iFrame which when called passed a replaces a <span> on the parent page with the <span> on the iFrame.

this is the javascript I had and which works great with IE, this passes the <span> without any issues...

<span id="ImageSection">
    ***some HTML***
</span>
<script>
      parent.ImageSection.innerHTML = ImageSection.innerHTML;
      parent.ImageSection.style.display = 'inline';
</script>

now with Mozilla and NS this doesn't work, the javascript console returned an error saying, "ImageSection is undefined."

so I tried changing to this...

<span id="ImageSection">
    ***some HTML***
</span>
<script>
 parent.getElementById("ImageSection").innerHTML = document.getElementById("ImageSection").innerHTML;
 parent.getElementById("ImageSection").style.display = 'inline';
</script>

but this doesn't work either, I get the error "parent.getElementById is not a function" so how would I do this in Mozilla and NS?
