The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

reloading a page that contains form contents after form data has been submitted and new page is in view.

Asked by linuxman25 in JavaScript

Hello.  I'm developing a php/mysql application and I think i've run into a javascript requirement.
on my application i have a form with lots of data that gets submitted.  After submission the data gets put into the mysql database and user is now viewing the next page that involves making some other changes etc etc...what i wish is for if the user clicks the back button to get to the original page that contains the form, the page should simply reload so the form data will be blank etc..  i don't want the user to be able to click 'back' and get to the original form page so they can click submit again with the same form information that was just submitted.

the original form page is a php page that contacts my database and performs a query to get all rows in a specified table, then in the form a drop-down box is filled with the contents that were retrieved.  this obviously happens when the php page is loaded.  the problem is after the submit button is clicked on this page a new row is entered into the database, however when clicking the browser 'back' button to get back to this page, the new entry isn't listed in the drop-down box because the page hasn't officially been reloaded.

i've seen this successfully done in an asp type of application that is similar to mine...same type of form page and when submitted the page goes to a new url page.  when you click back though (same window) it does show the new entry in the drop-down box (the page reloads).  this is what i wish to achieve.
the only thing i noticed in the asp application is that after clicking submit on the form, a new smaller browser window opens up just for a second or two, then closes.  perhaps this has something to do with it.....i'm not sure.

any help with this is greatly appreciated.
thanks
