Need help learning basic Javascript- changing class of an object

I have two classes (redText and yellowText) defined in a style sheet. I have the following html:
<h3> <a name="colorchange" id="colorchange" class="yellowtext" href="#">Make it red.</a></h3>
I want to change the class from yellowText to redText when I click the text. Seemed like a really simple thing to do. The script I tried is below. (The problem is in the first five lines. The function addClickListener(fn) was taken from a book and seems to work fine.) I get a message that 'colorchange' has no properties. Please explain what I'm doing wrong as if you were talking to an imbecile (I know you're thinking that is a possibility! ;-))
