The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Hi,

I wanted to make an image gallery for fun/learning. I did this in a java applet but they are so slow to load, you need to make sure the user has java installed, etc, they just don't look that great.

So i'm thinking about doing it in javascript. I need to know if the following items can be done:

1) At page load up, read an XML file with a listing of (up to 1500) local image paths that will be displayed in the gallery. The whole XML file should be read into a javascript vector<> object of some sort.
2) I'll predefine maybe 10 thumbnails to show at a time. So I want to define 10 thumbnail divs and render the thumbnail images into them.
3) After the page has finished loading that stuff, the user can click on one of the thumbnails to render the main full size image to the center of the screen.
4) In the background, would it be possible to have the other thumbnails pre-load their high res images in memory to make display faster?
5) When the user hits a 'next' button, the next 10 thumbnails are loaded, the process is repeated.

I'm just not sure how one can define a class in javascript to encapsulate an image, much less have the image be loaded in the background using javascript!

Thanks for any info
