The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Color picker javascript is not working...
Zone: JavaScript
Tags: javascript, javascript
Hi,
I downloaded this color picker javascript to add to my pages, basically i want to use the color picker to change the text and background of a table.

The problem is it works in IE but still has 2 errors somewhere and does not work in FF for some reason.
FireBug has found two errors.

I am totally confused, and am putting all the points i have into this.

Thanks in advance!

Change the value for top on you color_picker to this:
<span id="color_picker" style="position: absolute; top: 81px; left: 656px; display: none;">

and it will look at about the same location as it does in IE. Making that change does not affect IE6. Not sure about IE7.

Hello,
Although it is displaying in FF now, there are still two errors being thrown in IE... How do i kill those errors?

(I am on IE7)

Thanks!

@a2zee1979: Are you on the right post? It sounds like you "own" the post, but the poster is someone else. If in fact you meant that comment for this post, yes, I did notice the errors but to track them you will need to use the uncompressed version of the script instead. The errors were repored on line 3 but there is a lot of code on line 3. I don't know where the original code was obtained nor if it is available in an uncompressed format so I didn't even bring up the issue.

Hello,
No, i was myself looking for a good color picker and came accross this post... i guess i should have mentioned that, sorry.
This color picker is quite simple and easy to use so i tested out your solution... and posted my results, my intention was to ask you and the original poster something like this:

I tested the code and its throwing me 2 errors are you getting the same (to the poster) and to you, how is it possible  kill this?

Sorry for the confusion!

>> how is it possible  kill this?
You would need to wrap all that in try-catch:
try{
//offending line here
}
catch(e){}

but that is really NOT solving the problem. The true solution would be to find out why the error is ocurring but it is difficult to debug a compressed script. My suspicion is that there must be a reference to a non-existent element  or property. I'll try to find the original script later, but if you get to it before I do, by all means, post the link here.

From what I see, the problem is in the in clrPickr.js and is here: lastValidColor

elem("lastValidColor-"+a).value=b;if(c){elem("colorfield-"+a).value=b

and

elem("colorsample-"+a).style.backgroundColor="#"+elem("lastValidColor-"+a).value;showError(a,val("invalidColorErrorMsg"))

 But I dont know what to do with them now that i found the offending blocks... this is a little too advanced for me.. :(

Please note, i am not interested in the points, I would just like to get this working myself :)
All credit for this should go to: Hielo

Put this somewhere within the <body> and the FF runtime errors will be gone.
<span id="lastValidColor-altcolor"></span>

Like I said on my first post, you will also need to modify the color_picker element to this:
<span id="color_picker" style="position: absolute; top: 81px; left: 656px; display: none;">
