Click shows division and disable everything outside that deivision?

I'm not sure the question is exactly accurate but wasn't sure exactly what to ask.

If you go to this page: http://psyc.horm.org/ there is the link "Get Code" in the option box at the top of the page. When you click this link it opens a "Window" of sorts. I'm assuming that what is happening is that a previously hidden div is being displayed. While this "Window" is open everything outside of the windows area on the page is disabled, clinking on anything outside the window has no effect.

How is this done?

Pointers to how to proceed, websites that explain how it works, tutorials, whatever you have on the subject will be greatly appreciated.
