The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Capturing a mouse drag event
Zone: JavaScript
Hi,

I have an image object, I can capture mouse down events on it no problem. When the user does a mouse down, then drags the mouse, then releases the mouse, I was hoping to get a mouse up event notification, but none is generated. I only get a mouse up when the mouse down/up location is the same exact x/y coordinate.

I just want to know where the user released the mouse after dragging.

Also, I don't really want the user to be able to drag at all anyway, so if there's a way to block that for my image objects that would be great. When I say block, I mean I don't want the mouse cursor to change to the drag icon, I just want the normal mouse cursor but still want to know the mouse up position.

Thanks

hmm looks promising I'll give it a try.

Hmm it's interesting, I'm trying to develop a web page to be used by an iPhone. It seems their browser is hard-wired to not allow dragging elements. On my PC, your drag code works as expected. You click the PHP image, drag, release, the alert comes up.

On the iPhone, you drag the PHP image and the whole web page moves! Seems like there's no chance for dragging on that device.

Any ideas? If not no big deal, don't think there's any way around this as it's probably hard-coded into the phone.

Thanks

Ah, no luck. No big deal, gives me an excuse to do any easier UI solution anyway!

Thanks
