The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I'm having some problems getting dynamic text fields to auto update its value (on page load) if the field equals $0.  I'd like to have *STD in any "price" text field that currently shows as $0.

<input type="text" name="price<%=rowcounter%>" id="price<%=rowcounter%>" value="$<%=(RS.Fields("LSTPC"))%>" size="10" maxlength="10"  />

Hi,

Why not just use the replace function?

<%=(Replace(RS.Fields("LSTPC"),"0","STD"))%>

05.07.2008 at 06:33AM PDT, ID: 21516184
In fact ive just noticed the $ is outside of the asp, use a function like this

public function fixPrice(str)
if str = 0 then
fixPrice= "$" & str
else
fixPrice= "STD"
end if

thus:

<%=fixPrice(RS.Fields("LSTPC"))%>
end function

Hi, I dont knwo much about ASP, but you need something like:

<%=(RS.Fields("LSTPC") != "0.00" ? "$"+RS.Fields("LSTPC")  : "*STD" )%> //JSP syntax

05.07.2008 at 06:53AM PDT, ID: 21516356
I MADE A TYPO! oops! :o) end function was in wrong place

PLEASE SEE REVISED

<%
public function fixPrice(str)
if str = 0 then
fixPrice= "$" & str
else
fixPrice= "STD"
end if
end function
%>

thus:

<%=fixPrice(RS.Fields("LSTPC"))%>

Hey bluefezteam, thanks for the responses!  I'm running into a problem with your previous code.  Error:  Type mismatch.  Do I have the function in the wrong place, or something else I'm missing?  Below is some of the ASP code I'm working with.

no that looks alright, it must be the value thats being passed in as a string rather than an integer. change the function to this:

public function fixPrice(str)
if str = "0" then
fixPrice= "$" & str
else
fixPrice= "STD"
end if
end function

-----------------------------
note:

if str = "0" then <<<change this to "0.00" if thats whats in the database

And from your explanation I would guess you want

public function fixPrice(str)
  if str = "0" then
    fixPrice= "STD"
  else
    fixPrice= "$" & str
  end if
end function

Nevermind, I got it working.  Had to change a couple things around with your code, but it helped me out great!  Thank you!

Unaccepted to allow a split

hx3 can you accept my solution so I can get the points please?

05.07.2008 at 07:29AM PDT, ID: 21516750
I would think some of the others could get some points too?

I just corrected the script...

Let me know if you want to split the points

05.07.2008 at 07:38AM PDT, ID: 21516865
Well yeah I would have expected all the points to be honest, but split them is fine

Thanks

I'm so sorry, bluefezteam...I wasn't even paying attention to who posted the "Accepted Solution" post.  I thought it was you, since you and I were going back and fourth through this question.  I thought the last reply with code was posted by you.  You should be getting the points.

05.07.2008 at 07:53AM PDT, ID: 21517064
OK. Its alright, I think you should be able to assign the points to us in this window or maybe you need to contact the support team of EE

Thanks
Rob
