The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Changing document title of a HTML window opened by window.open() ?

Asked by hdau in JavaScript, Internet Explorer Web Browser, Dynamic HTML (DHTML)

Tags: ,

Experts,
I´m stuck with the following problem:
From one HTML window, I open another one using window.open() from Javascript. The content of the new window comes from an ASP page. The caption of the new window by default is the URL to the ASP page (something like http://serveraddress/pagetitle.aspx?queryitem=ITEMNUMBER).
I have been asked to instead of the whole URL only show the query item number as window caption.
That seemed easy, tried to do it the following way:

                    var thereq = "http://localhost:89/pagetitle.aspx?queryitem=" + ITEMNUMBER;
                    var win=window.open(thereq,"_blank", "HEIGHT:768px,WIDTH:1024px",true);
                    win.document.title = ITEMNUMBER;

Window opening, showing content works all fine, however, trying to change the document.title property gives me an "Access denied" JS error.
Now that sees to be a security feature that is as expected, but I could not find any setting on IE or machine that would allow changing the title.

IS there some setting / some other way of coding that would allow to change the window caption (window.caption does not work either, tried that).
The solution could even mean putting one or both of the windows into another security zone, as long as there is a solution/workaround, I am quite free to do so in this case.

Any assistance much appreciated,
thanks,
