How do I fix this javascript function to work?

Hello,
I need some help validating some form data. Basically what needs to happen is this. When the user submits a form with 2 text areas, each text area must be checked to be sure it has specific character data in it, before the form can be submitted for processing. I have written a chunk of javascript to do this (I am a total noob to javascript), however I cant get it to work. For some reason I cant get it to get the values from the text areas and check them... See the code attachment to see the whole page.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
