Question

Change character encoding for a link

Hi all,

My page has :
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
And I'm afraid it has to be like that otherwise the trouble would be bigger.

The only problem I have using iso-8859-1 is the sharing with Facebook.
If the link I'm going to share contains characters that Facebook doesn't like,  it won't get posted.
 Facebook likes UTF-8 and hates iso-8859-1, so what I have to do is to get the encoding and change it into UTF-8 just for the sharing link with Facebook.

I was thinking in a function for the link, something like:

function changeChar (){
storeCurrentCharset= document.getElementsByTagName('meta')[0].content.split('charset=')[1];
}

But I don't know how to continue ... can anybody help??

Hi,

did you try encodeURI() method? You can encode a text with it and send it to FB.
