insertBefore function Javascript

Hi,

I'm trying to get this code to work. Just a simple example of an insertBefore() function with javascript but it's not working. Any suggestions?

That's document.body.insertbefore, not document.insertbefore.  Try the code snippet.

insertBefore needs to be called on the new parent of the element you're inserting:

hello.insertbefore(newRow, hello.firstChild);

Hi,

1- you should use newrow.innerHTML instead of document.getElementById('newDiv').innerHMTL because it's not added to document yet

2- you should use insertBefore of the parent element of your desire element.

One more to find the errors on your javascripts easier, use firefox and install "Web Developer Add On" for it. just be careful to test your scripts in IE too.

Be aware that the ID attribute of an element *must be* unique, so "function1" will only work correctly the first time it is invoked (because the value for the ID attribute is hard-coded).

HI,

Thanks for the help. However, the code seems to append  the new <div id='newDiv'> AFTER rather than place the new div BEFORE the <div id='hello'>. I'm trying to place the <div id='newDiv'> BEFORE the <div id='hello'>.

Thank you for your help.

I tested what works and here is the code that works:
