is there any other alternative of input type="file" means i want to use <input type="image" src="1.jpg" /> to open the browse window. like orkut is doing. to browse the image it uses an image. i know there is a lot of javascript involved in this. do you have script for this.

Have you tried SWFUpload. Its a good alternative to html file upload. Gmail uses a similar method.

Check the examples on left.
Only limitation is that user machine should have flash player installed. (Most systems have it)

This is *not* possible with javascript. (Except where you are working with elevated privileges, like, for example, chrome has in firefox).
I don't know what orkut is doing, because I do not use that service, however, I imagine they probably use a java applet for this. There are a lot of java applets out there. A free one, for example, might be: JumpLoader.
