ClientId in Javascript

this is the way it was:

function GridCreated()
{
    var RadGrid1 = $find("<%= grdFunctions.ClientID %>");

But I don't want to hard-code a client ID in my code-in-front and duplicate this function for multiple grids on the page. So I want one function to handle all my grids.

So I've changed the call to do this:
            grdFunctions.ClientSettings.ClientEvents.OnGridCreated = "GridCreated(" & grdFunctions.ClientID & ")"

And I have a js include file with this:

function GridCreated(gridClientId) {
    var RadGrid1 = $find(gridClientId);

But I don't know enough about javascript to know how to put the quotes around the $find("gridClientId"); part and have it actually use the value in gridClientId.

How do I do that?

Now I can use that one function for multiple grids if I can figure that much out.

In your javascript, the gridClientId is actually a variable.  You don't need to put quotes around it because it isn't a string literal.  Is the function failing?  If so, what is the message?  thanks.

It's failing. When trying to use the RadGrid1, it says it's null or not an object.

I'll look further into it and see what is actually being passed in the calling function.

instead of this:

try this:

Okay, I guess it's unrelated. I get the null error on this line whether I hard-code the ID or not.

var row = RadGrid1.get_masterTableView().get_selectedItems()[0];

So something else must be broken. sigh.

thank you Helio, I realized I needed to do that after I started stepping through to see what it was passing. that was wrong, but that isn't what is causing the null problem. I'll keep checking. thanks guys.

Make sure that the ID actually DOES exist on the sent HTML markup
