I appreciate your help very much. I will go away and think about what you have laid out, and perhaps start an additional question here.
Thank you.

Browse All TopicsI want to provide people using cellphones with a "full" version of Google Maps that includes route planning and the usual features, BUT also includes "Points of Interest" from a list we provide.
Two points:
1. Should behave (mostly) as if normal Google Maps on a cellphone
2. Should show our own push-pin points of interest
We need to make sure we are not taking a design path that we will regret in 3 months time!
Thanks

Cellphones are really difficult for now to program using what you would like to achieve. Basically this is possible, but you have to be aware that many things might not work as you plan to. At first you would need to define your needs:
1. What Devices are you thinking about ?
2. Then answer yourself what browser will be there, not all devices has support for GPS inside browser.
3. What maps features you need (route only? or something more?)
Then you will need to be aware of:
1. Browsers on device got many diffrent problems than on computer - some events are being fired in wrong order, or not being fired at all.
2. GPS is only available on newer devices only (even if its present on device it doesnt mean that you will have access to it from browser).
3. Google maps inside browser (I got problem running v3, but v2 runs quite ok) is not very fast, google creates a separate application for browser to make it faster. Do you think about creating application in Web environment or as a Device Application written in its native language?
