How do I read in XML into Javascript at the XML Stylesheets transformation process?

Dear Experts!

I am transforming an XML document into HTML.

At the same time I want to parse in the XML document into Javascript.

I am trying to do like in the code below as part of the stylesheet, but it doesn't work. When loading the result HTML, it comes up with a JavaScript error...

How do I do?

lot of things can go wrong there, but for a start, I can imagine that the XML is not on one line, thus breaking the string cast of your XML snippet

Yes, you are right, it would probably work if the xml was cleaned up into one text line. Actually I am sure it would work. But then I need to preprocess the XML as a text string on the server side, which is a work around... But not the beautiful solution I am hoping to find...

You could simply add a <xsl:strip-space> for "*" to your XSLT
That will remove all the whitespace between the tags

there is no need for preprocessing, if you have an indent="yes" in your XSLT, that would be sufficient to break your preprocessing result.
What I would do in this case is an xsl:apply-templates to an identity copy instead of a deep copy
use a seperate mode and normalize-space all the text nodes in the identity copy

instead of
            <xsl:copy-of select="." />
use
            <xsl:apply-templates select="node()" mode="strip-nl"/>

and add the following two templates to your XSLT

   <xsl:template match="*" mode="strip-nl">
        <xsl:copy>
            <xsl:copy-of select="@*"/>
            <xsl:apply-templates select="node()" mode="strip-nl"/>
        </xsl:copy>
    </xsl:template>
    <xsl:template match="text()" mode="strip-nl">
        <xsl:value-of select="normalize-space(.)"/>
    </xsl:template>

Should remember to set @indent="no" on the xsl:output .... as you said earlier on...

But then it works!
