Allow only checkboxes from same group to be checked

I would like to create a javascript that will only allow checkboxes from the same group to be checked.

For instance I have several quotes from several customers and I want to be able to select multiple quotes from the one customer to submit to an order but I want to make sure that I do not accidently check a box for a quote from a different customer as well.

Quote 1 from customer A
Quote 1 from customer B
Quote 2 from customer A
Quote 1 from customer C
Quote 3 from customer A

So I want to check Quotes 1, 2 and 3 from customer A but need to make sure I cannot accidently check Quote 1 from customer B or Quote 1 from customer C if I have checked any of the quotes from customer A.

The quotes and customers will be in random order and there are an undetermined amount of quotes so the java script will need to be dynamic in nature.

I was trying to group the checkboxes by ID, the value of the checkbox input would be the quote number and the name of the checkbox would be quotenumber like this:

so if I check a box with ID "1" I cannot check a box with any other ID unless I uncheck all boxes of ID "1"

you shold not make id's duplications id's should be unique....

you cannot group the elements with id's however you can group them based on the name so u can and a prefix to the name of the qoutes based on the coustomer  for example for customer A change the name as  "quotenumberA" and use

             var qoutArr =  documents.getElementsByName("quotenumberA"); //returns array of elements...

              using for loop u can check all checkbox....

I would not suggest this at all....
use the initial two posts to do what is required or simply use a radios  to do the job

@flux as you wish, which ever seems feasible to you. we have given the possible suggestions. Having the ids will be a poor way of coding things. But since you do not heed to the advice given you can go ahead.
