Can I track the file stream through javascript?

I want to track the file upload / download through javascript. Is it possible to do with javascript / dom?

You can't do it with javascript. The best way to do it would be a simple flash plugin. A good one I use is www.uploadify.com - works with jquery. There are others out there though.
