How to properly set-up/remove versions of gd using ppm? other methods?

I need to use the GD component of active perl 5.6 (windows) for one of my projects but the following error always occurs:

When I try to run my script, the command line returns:
--> GD object version 1.27 does not match$GD::VERSION 1.40 c:/perl/lib/dynaloader.pm line 225
--> Compilation failed in require at lat.pl line 3
--> BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at lat.pl line 3.

How can I upgrade to version 1.40 or downgrade to version 1.27 in order to counteract this problem? Can this be done using ppm or do I need to manually do this using other methods? If the latter, how, as I really have little background on this language...

Have you tried:

  ppm remove GD
  ppm install GD

already? I just did that and ended up with a fresh copy of GD 1.27.2 installed. The version 1.40 seems to be fishy. Do you have a statement "use GD 1.40" in your script?
