Beginner question of Perl

I have a Windows VC++6.0 based application. Have spent allong time developing it.

I am studying Perl now because I was shown a script that allowed me to query search engines on user entered subject.

I want to give the user the ability to download files based on subject matter and file type chosen.

I guess I will gather the results in a hash (to assure uniqueness). Then I will loop over the hash and have WGet get the files. (Also keeping recursion in mind by parsing the html or whatever type pages)

I understand that the CPAN has many modules that I can select from in order to do much of what I want. I have the book Beginning Perl by Simon Cozens.

What I am wondering is about using Perl in my application. What files do I distribute along with my application files? Is this possible to run Perl plx file from within my C++ application? I am thinking along the lines of ShellExecute but I really dont know how this is done.

Am I on the right track?
