The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

The mysteries of IIS 6 on Windows 2003 using Activestate perl

Asked by jgilligan1 in Perl Programming Language

Hi folks, I have a question which is driving me up the wall.

I've installed Win2003 with IIS6 and have installed Activestate Perl, (5.6.1.638) and
I've had the worst time getting this to work properly.

I had installed perl a few weeks ago and it just worked fine without having to explicitly install the definitions in the Web Extensions tab of IIS OR making a particular association in the web-site directory. (At this point I should have tried to part the Red Sea or something because my luck was apparently so good.)

In any event, I had to install another CGI script language and I then checked to make sure all the languages currently in use were all working and playing well together - and everything was.

Now, I went to copy an existing web-site to a new IP address / URL and when I did, the damnest thing , Perl stopped working, the other CGI apps have been fine but perl just stopped on a dime for all of my web-sites.

Being a little frustrated with this,

I read through and made manual associations for .pl in IIS (refering to)

and a couple of other places (php.net etc)
Had no luck so I uninstalled Activestate , rebooted and reinstalled, selected to have Activestate install the appropriate extensions and what have you.

Still nothing.

So I'm more or less rather baffled at the moment does anyone have any thoughts or have seen this odd behavior out of IIS before?

Regards,

Joe G.
