The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Executing Perl Scripts on XP PRO

Asked by tutaz in Perl Programming Language

Hi

I have a scirpt, that works perfectly on my website, but i need
to test it on my XP machine... It runs on the website
without producing any server errors... and it is working
exactly as it should be.

I have some questions... and they are all about the above mentioned subject: Executing/Running  Perl Scripts on XP PRO

1- Is it possible to run a *.cgi or *.pl  file on my XP,
and get the *exact results* as i run it on a web server?
Or there are times .. that perl scirpts won't work on my PC?

Example:  If i am having a script that  100% perfectly running in my domain's /cgi-bin/ directory....
like: http://www.My-Domainnnnn.com/cgi-bin/My-Perl-Code.cgi

Is it *always*  applicable to run "My-Perl-Code.cgi" file on
my XP, and get the same results as if it is running in the CGI-BIN directory?

Or it depends on what the script does?

2- Well, i hope i am not asking too much .. but:
How to do it?

Well, i didn't do it before...and it seems as a hard thing to do...
so i need some help to actually running the file on my XP machine.

I know that this envolves getting ActivePerl & Apachi
SO i downloaded the files:
ActivePerl-5.8.4.810-MSWin32-x86.msi     and
apache_2.0.52-win32-x86-no_ssl.msi

and they are ready for installation.

If you refer me to a "how-to" article online.. then please accept that i will return and ask some "how-to's" of that article.

I've tryed to do it myself... and the only thing that was OK...
was the installation of the above 2 programs.

Will be waiting for your kind help ;-)

Best  regards

Tutaz
