Two alternatives:
1/ Use the DBI "quote" function.
$sql = "INSERT INTO `contractProducts` (`clientId`,`productId`,`p
2/ (much better) Use placeholders in your SQL.
$sql = 'INSERT INTO `contractProducts` (`clientId`,`productId`,`p
my $sth = $dbh->prepare($sql);

The placeholder alternative is much better as it makes your SQL far easier to understand. It handles all of the quoting for you.
Actually, there's a third alternative, which is what I'd use - use a module like Class::DBI and remove all of the SQL from your code :)
