Reading a directory and renaming a file located on different machines

Im relatively new to perl ...we have ActivePerl 6 on windows server 2003 Im trying to synchronize MYSQL databases ( replication master and slaves)..
I want to run a perl script that looks at various servers directories if a file exists then rename it and restart the service of that machine
if file doesnt exist display message...

So the part that doesnt work is going to the various servers and reading their directories..can anyone steer me in the right direction?
