The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. extracting rpm name and taking the backup of configuration file

Below are the list of downloaded rpm's  using up2date command:

pcre-4.5-4.el4_6.6.i386.rpm
perl-5.8.5-36.el4_6.3.i386.rpm
popt-1.9.1-23_nonptl.i386.rpm
procps-3.2.3-8.9.el4_6.1.i386.rpm
pygtk2-2.4.0-2.el4.i386.rpm
pygtk2-libglade-2.4.0-2.el4.i386.rpm
python-2.3.4-14.4.el4_6.1.i386.rpm
qt-3.3.3-13.RHEL4.i386.rpm
redhat-release-4ES-7.i386.rpm
rhnlib-2.1.1-9.el4_6.noarch.rpm

I've download updates from RHN for RHEL 4 update 5 and now i want to update the Linux Box using the above downloaded rpm's , but before that i want to take back up of configuration files of those rpm's using Perl.

But now the issue is that when I'm trying rpm -qc redhat-release-4ES-7.i386.rpm it gives the error "package redhat-release-4ES-7.i386.rpm is not installed" , for this I've to try rpm -qc redhat-release , but I'm not able to extract it from the  above rpm's.


Please mention also how to take backup of conf files in the above scenario.Start Free Trial
