Powershell Stop/Start service on remote computers

I am trying to stop the wuauserv service on remote computers, do some other processing and then restart the wuauserv service.  I am having problems getting the service to stop and restart.  I have enclosed a code snippet of what I am using.

It appears that the service never stops and so the processing is unable to complete.  
Thanks for any help or examples of how I may accomplish this.

(Get-WmiObject -computer $computer Win32_Service -Filter "Name='wuauserv'").InvokeMethod("StopService",$null)
Start-Sleep -seconds 2
 
...some processing
 
(Get-WmiObject -computer $computer Win32_Service -Filter "Name='wuauserv'").InvokeMethod("StartService",$null)
