In Python a class seemgingly proper will yield a name 'SampleClass' is not defined error when run

Using the following type of program (see snippet)

Then from Linux Fedore command line with program saved as trygtk.py

python trygtk.py

This is arising in programs with a class as my python programs without a class are running just fine

I moved your program to the code snippet. The indentation does not look correct.

Please copy the code into a new snippet and cleanup the indentation. ALSO (for me it is hard to read a mix of Python and pseudo-code) so please take a moment and make it all Python, so any of us could copy paste and execute.

Notice to what object lines 13-18 belong, and therefore when they are executed. (The traceback tells you the latter).

These lines are not executed when you want them to be. Can you tell how to change the indentation to fix that?

with the code that I was modeling my effort after (an excellente site now that the example is proven to work). But, you were right. It is so simple. My indentation of the last part should have been as below, but as per my original post had been shifted one over:

def main():
gtk.main()
return 0
if _name_ == "_main_":
SomeWidgets()
main()

As a by the way the compiler had been giving me indentation errors all along for other indentation errors, but what fooled me was the 'name not defined' error instead of another indentation error notice. So the take home message for me and perhaps others is that the compiler does not always respond with an indentation error message for what is indeed an indentation error.

Thanks you for a very simple solution that was quite timely. I hope my post and your answer will help others avoid a simple mistake.

Your code does not have any of those. It is valid code. It just happens to be not the indentation you wanted. But Python is not a mind reader.

def main

was aligned with the previous defs, and so was seen as another method of the class.

Also please try out the code snippet for posting code. It for me makes it more readable and I can easily refer to lines by #.
