The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Bots and keeping them from executing code

I have tried many methods to stop the bots from processing certain lines of code. I need them to not process certain lines because they call out to a Web Service that charges us for every bot that visits.

I have been kind of successful in that I have tried a few approaches. They are the following:

If Instr(TheAgent, "BOT")>0 Then Spider="Yes"

The above method worked well for a variety of bots and I use the same string many times with different replacements for the word BOT, but it is not full proof. Not all bots have BOT in their UserAgent.

I have also tried and use right now the Request.ServerVariables("HTTP REFERRER"). There must be a value present to run the script, and this works great, since bots don't have a HTTP_REFERRER, but I want people who bookmark our page with Web Services code to get the full page just like they clicked on the page.

Wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this. I am and have tried a lot of other things and nothing seems to work. Start Free Trial
