The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How can I get my logon script to run on a non-domain pc?

Asked by chviola in Scripting Languages, Virtual Private Networking (VPN), Windows Networking

All,

When I log into my company's Juniper SSL VPN portal from my work pc (Windows XP SP2), the Network Connect component will act as an IPSec client and give me an IP address on our corporate network.  Secconds later our company logon script will run and map network drives to shares on various file servers based on Active Directory group membership.  When I am logging into my Juniper portal from my home computer (Windows XP SP2), the script never runs and the network drives never map, even though that pc is also given an IP address on my company's network.

We are using KIXstart for the logon script.  Essentially it is a batch file that calls kix32.exe and a .kix file containing the commands.  It is stored in the NETLOGON share of our domain controllers.  The commands in the kix file are similar to:

IF INGROUP("AD Group")
      shell "net use N: /delete"
        shell "net use N: \\server name\share name"
ENDIF

I believe I am having this issue because my home computer is not a member of the domain and the account I am signing into the computer with is not a domain account.  When I initially log into the Juniper portal I am using my domain account to authenticate, but unfortunately it does not continue to use these credentials when it contacts my domain controller to launch the script.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can get my non-domain computer to be able to launch the script file from the NETLOGON share on my domain controller and then map network drive mappings based on AD group membership?  Start Free Trial
