The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Powershell event log backup

I am trying to convert an old vb script that backups up our event logs, and am running into some trouble.

Here is the part of the old way that is confusing me a bit:

Set oFS = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
eventfile = "\\" & strComputer & "\c$\" & strBackupName & "_" & objLogfile.LogFileName & ".evt"
set f2 = oFS.GetFile(eventfile)
f2.move (LogCenter & strComputer & "\" & strBackupName & "_" & objLogfile.LogFileName & ".evt")
set f2 = NOTHING
objLogFile.ClearEventLog()

In Powershell, do I have to open a file before I right to it?
What if it is not a text file, the event logs are binary i think, not text anyway.
Do I have to call a special function to dump the event log?
In Powershell, how do I call a wmi method (correct terminology?  I want the WMI to do something, like clear the log)
In general, how would I get powershell to write to a file?  Do I still have to use the vb way of a special wmi locally?

All I really want to do is dump the event log to a file.

I swear I did research this before posting!
