Pull an xml feed across domains into newsticker

I want to implement a news ticker type endless horizontal scroller. The text the scroller displays needs to come from outside of the domain hosting it and needs to update frequently.

Knowing what I do about Flash and sandbox security and pulling data across domains  I am leaning more towards a javascript and Ajax solution.

I see in the documentation for jCarousel, "by passing the callback function itemLoadCallback as configuration option, you are able to dynamically create <li> items for the content.

and there are several dynamic examples on http://sorgalla.com/jcarousel/

However I have no intention of pulling in images so jCarousel may not be the best solution.

I have implemented before for non dynamic text  both jscroller2

Unfortunately the creators of both jScroller and the jQuery based Newsticker do not have English as a first language and their documentation for someone with noob JS skills is not helpful enough & I have not found any examples of either being used to display dynamic content.

And due to cross domain security, you will not be allowed to pull it unless you make a proxy on our server

Are you saying it's not just Flash that would prevent the file from being pulled across domains without a crossdomain policy file?

What about an RSS feed?

If I want to go ahead and attempt to use either of the <li> based tickers above, what would I need to add as a function to pull an RSS feed into those <li>s?

I am having a hard time understanding this docuentation.

Any textfile from another domain will be disallowed to get using javascript.

Only simple way is if the foreign server serves a Javascript file - for example a JSON/Javascript like

var rssFeed = { json data here }

then you can simply load it into the page either by tag or by adding the script to the head dynamically

I had a feeling what the know nothings were promising could be done was not doable without major machinations.

The entity this feed would come from is some woman who types things as they happen while a major league baseball team is playing. The text she types then appears on a billboard somewhere. I have yet to determine what type of file she is creating when she types.

Someone else suggested an ASP screen scraper and some ajax.

 I don't know enough about ASP to know whether this approach is doable. Like I said my knowledge of crossdoamin issues is because of Flash's sandbox security, which has apparently gotten a lot stricter for Flash players 9 and 10 as a crossdomain policy file I have implemented on our server does not work for AS3 Flash Player 9 files.

It is certainly something I will bring up with the people who don't want me to be able to use Pointroll's Rich Media full serve XML data solutions. Not only are there cross domain issues, this file for tracking purposes will need to be served via a 3rd party ad tracking system, or hard coded on the page and use Google Analytics for tracking. I appreciate your help with this. You have confirmed what I only suspected.
