   ping -n 60 localhost

... wait's 60 seconds

or, it a batch file:

  @echo off
   setlocal
   set seconds=%1
   if "%seconds%"=="" set seconds=5
   ping -n %seconds% localhost >nul
   endlocal

then call it like this:

I actually call a vbs to add wait time to my batch file logon scripts...
cscript p:\sleep30.vbs


'****sleep30.vbs******
wscript.sleep(30000)

I just tried to do this and calling a vbs file is much easier than the other proposed methods.

that poor man sleep by knightEknight is a genius.
If you do not want to see the output (no /dev/null on windows), pipe it into find "/dev/null" like
ping -n 60 localhost | find "/dev/null"

ping -n 60 localhost>nul 2>&1
