The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Login Script to Map Network Drives According to AD Group Policy

Asked by ryanjames3 in Windows Batch Scripting, VB Script

Tags:

My company uses Active Directory with around 300 users and the way it was originally setup was each user has their own batch file that would run at startup, disconnect all network drives and reconnect them using the commands...
net use * /d /y > nul   <-----disconnects all drives
net use S: \\SERVER\%USERNAME% /y     <-----user's personal share of the drive
net use D: \\SERVER\MKTG    <-----marketing's share
to connect to the user's personal network drive share as well as the department's. The problem is, each user may be part of a different department or multiple departments. The only way we have them classified into the departments right now is in the Member Of tab in the user's properties (right click the user in AD and click properties) where each one of them is assigned to the different groups they are members of.
I am looking to consolidate the login batch scripts to make either one batch script that selects the necessary department or a VB script that does the same to map the network drives for every user. I was wondering what the necessary steps are to do this...how would I setup a group policy to get this going and would I be correct in thinking VBScript would be the better option for the scripting?Start Free Trial
