I want to run a file which is on a file server share when the machine is not joined to the domain, although it is connected to the network. this is to run in a batch file. how can i do this?

The * will ask the user to enter his password when the drive is mapped.
If the server isn't joined to the domain, you'll need local accounts on the server to access them and users will have to provide these credentials. Passthrough authentication will only be possible if you have the same accounts with the same passwords on the stand-alone server as in AD.

You'll need to map a drive to the share with a user account either in the domain that the file server is in, or with a local user account on the file server.
If mapping from Explorer, click the link "Connect with another account"; from a command prompt, use
net use \\server\share * /user:<SomeUser>
To connect with the a domain user, use
DOMAIN\username
as user name, to connect with a local account on the file server, use only the account name. If the file server happens to be a DC, you can use the account name without the domain as well.
