Get date from a Windows command line (remote server)
Hi All,
My need is simple: I need to be able to get the date (and split it up into <dd>, <mm> and <yyyy>) from the Windows commandline.
But there's a catch: I can't rely on the local workstation.
I have a batch script that remotes into an FTP server and dumps a whole heap of files and currently it enumerates the date using the following SET variables:
SET _DATE=%date%
SET _YEAR=%_DATE:~10,4%
SET _MONTH=%_DATE:~7,2%
SET _DAY=%_DATE:~4,2%
For reasons unexplained I need to do the same thing, but the date needs to be from a remote server (preferably an NTP server).
Now I can do this in UNIX by issuing the ntpdate -u <ntpserver> command, however Windows has no such equivalent and my google searches return on results for such a tool. I can also not get this from the FTP session, as I cannot pass anything to a variable once the session is opened.
The only possible way I can think this might be done, would be write small batch script that contains FTP commands in a sequence to connect, 'mkdir', do a 'dir' to get the date the folder was created, delete that dir and then exit. The result of this could be echoed to a txt file and then somehow I could run a for loop to find what I want.
But this seems very very dirty.
Can anyone think of any other ideas??
