For three servers (assuming you've set up ssh keys, just do)

scp -r /path/to/folder user@remoteserver1:/path/to/folder
scp -r /path/to/folder user@remoteserver2:/path/to/folder
scp -r /path/to/folder user@remoteserver3:/path/to/folder

both option copy folder with timestamp ?

by: TintinPosted on 2007-09-20 at 20:10:16ID: 19933135

Yes, both preserve the timestamp on files.

The advantage of rsync is that it is very efficient at copying files as it will only transfer the changes, rather than the whole file itself (in the situation where you've already copied the files).  It also has an option for keeping both sides exactly in sync, so that if you delete a file/directory from the source server it can be reflected on the destination server.

i created cool123.tar of cool123 folder in /home/cmbuild2
ls -la
drwxrwxrwx   5 cmbuild2 cmbuild      512 Sep 24 08:54 cool123
-rwxrwxrwx   1 cmbuild2 cmbuild    16896 Sep 24 09:38 cool123.tar
drwxrwxrwx   2 cmbuild2 cmbuild      512 Sep 24 11:15 look123

what i was trying to do , i copied that cool123.tar file in look123 using
scp -rp cool123.tar /home/cmbuild2/look123

now i am able to same byte and file in look123 folder.
 when i give this command
tar -xvf cool123.tar
it's not extracting folder, after that what i did i delete main  cool123 folder after that i run that command i got that file /home/cmbuild2 location..not folder where i want it.
