Assuming filenames only contain a single '.' followed by the extension. These should all work:
$ ./add-date.sh SOME_FILE.txt
$ ./add-date.sh OTHER_FILE.CSV
$ ./add-date.sh whatever-this-may-be.bigex

Browse All TopicsI need a script to place a time-stamp in the middle of a file name but also is there a way to get the extension without hard coding it in the scripts? For instance some files maybe a .CSV extension while some other may be a .TXT extension?
This is the script I have :
#!/bin/ksh
FILENAME="ZO_FIG_DLY_FILEN
base=$(basename $FILENAME .CSV)
timestamp=$(date "+%Y%m%d%H%M")
NEW_FILENAME="${base}_$tim
echo $NEW_FILENAME
Any ideas..?
Thanks
