Question

Shell commands using VB script

Hello,
we are trying to
1. open a putty instance.
2. loging using credentials
3. execute a shell script.
We see junk characters when the command is being passed. Please help. Here is the code and the attachment displaying the junk characters.

Do you have to use Putty, or can you telnet directly to the box and do that?

I've used it with great success to automate connecting to switches, routers, all sorts of stuff.

we need to use putty. direct telnet utility appers to be disabled in here. Cant use other tools either, long approval process involved.
We are able to use the above mentioned code, but its not consistent. The junk characters keep coming every now and then. if someone can help us with the current code itself, it'd be awesome. Thanks!

scripting of putty is on the wish list.  sendkeys in windows in often flaky in my experience as some other app will breifly grab focus and all stops. Or worse, sends keys to the wrong app.

actually plink may be what you are after.
Plink (a command-line interface to the PuTTY back ends)

w3sockets isn't a tool or utility.  It's a codebase for extending VBS (a la DLL) to allow for direct access to windows sockets.  Did you even bother to read the website, or just immediately shoot it down because "we can't use other tools"?

well I have the Plink. the code has plink and that is what we are using to pass commands. Its the junk characters that  I am looking to get rid of. It is sending junk characters to the command line on and off.

Hey guys
we found a work around and it working for us now. Here is what we did.
Create a permanant alias in the .profile file
alias z='./TESTING/abc.sh'

and in the VBscript file  we are now passing just one character. WshShell.SendKeys "z".
 We tried it a dozen times (no kidding) and it worked consistently! no junk characters!
