Need help with .dat and .ini files, in VB5

I am using VB4 and VB5. I need to be able to use lines in a plain text file in VB as variables. For instance...
User = people.ini -line 1
Money = person.dat -line 10

or something like that. I need to declare lines of these files as different things in order to calculate things properly. I also need to be able to use a selected file to read these things from. For example...
User = (Selected File).dat -line 8
Password = (Selected File).ini -line 6
Money = (Selected File).txt -line 2

Something to that effect. I am VERY NEW at this so please, be patient.
