The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

MDIChild at runtime?

Asked by john_price in Visual Basic Programming

I'm working on an app with a single main MDI form.  The main working "panel" will be a child form and will supply its menu and toolbar to the mdi form.  An Outlook-like panel down the left side allows the user to choose which "application" to run in the working panel. For all intents and purposes, the series of forms and dialogs which then display form a complete project, running within the working panel.  All of these apps share the same ODBC database.  In essence, the main mdi form provides the common work background for any of dozens of apps which will be offered via command buttons in the "outlook bar."

Many of the "applications" will need to access forms in other "applications."  To facilitate sharing and maintenance, we would like to package the forms as ActiveX controls to be used to fill the working panel.  The issue here is how to have that form become a true mdichild, mainly for the purpose of having the mdi parent display its menu and toolbar.

Dialog forms are being served out of dll libraries, and many of the kinks worked out there.  With dialogs, there is no need to work with the menus and toolbars, however.

Anyone know how to change the mdichild status of a form?  How can we load the form from the ActiveX control or dll, then make the mdi form its parent, and have it become a true mdichild?
