Could you explain a little about that

by: delloroPosted on 2000-10-08 at 14:16:03ID: 4629841

I would recommend a project investigating what types of search engines are available for the WWW
and what are the features of each one.

e.g. Boolean Searching for things like
      +car -mini

e.g. Concept Searching like
      "Tell me about Africa ?"

A couple of suggestions:
- Remote system monitoring and data acquistion over the Internet
- Data Encryption (a powerful method - comparable to DES)
The first suggestion is 'the state of the art'.
Regards.

Any type of E-Commerce / Smartcard application is EXTREMELY HOT in the Employment Market place right now. If you have the technical resources, go for this.. as with demonstrated proficiency, a job could very easily be awaiting YOU.

Data Compression / Encryption / Inet Search Engines, all have been pretty well done. However commercial businesses are scrambling to get a web presence.. and as such, this is where the "Gold" presently is at.. <smile> and a <wink>.

Dear Shireen,

How about doing something on Windows DNA and n-tier solutions?  :)

It can be quite interesting because you can cover a broad scope of knowledge that ranges from Data Access Technologies, Business Rules Implementation and Designing User Interfaces. :)

Also n-tier applications are widely used for supporting Internet solutions ;)

Hugs,
Serena

Something like that is NOT a "I can do it over lunch" type project.. as things like this take man Years to do. Temper your project's objective to something that you have interest in.. and very much limit the scope of the project to its basic components. Once you have the fundamentals of data collection and presentation in place.. then branch out with enhancements as time and energies become available.

As school is just like real life, it is important to give the customer what he/she wants. I would definitely recheck with the class's  professor.. for ideas that he/she feels are acceptable and to which you stand a good chance of succeeding and that will prove to be a beneficial experience in learning. Remember, as a student YOU are paying your teachers salary and that if you succeed.. the teacher succeed's as well.. <smile>.

One last point.. why don't you post your assignment sheet here so that we may can become familiar with it's requirements. No sense in suggesting something that is not within the scope of the assignment. Added to that.. post some of your interests and/or things that you are knowledgable about and lets see if we can't come up with something that fits you as a person.. <smile>.

My assignment is just that I have to do my final year project for my Degree.

My lecturer is not going to suggest anything. I have to come up with something of my interest and which is big enough to do a project on..

I have done a bit of VB and Systems Analysis...

By the way Folks.. take a look at this earlier question posted a week ago by "soon to graduate in Applied Computing" shireen_shabbir:
----------------------------------------------------------
I am interested in VB. I have made done a few very simple exercises like creating a form and adding a little bit of interactivity to it. Also done a bit of DAO Connectivity.

What is next? I want to learn more. I need a few sites that will teach me or few book titles that will help me. Especially interested in ActiveX objects.

Please advise...

Dear Experts,

Sorry to have caused you all the trouble..

I had no intention of any kind of fraud...Just some help...I posted the same question in the Web Development Section just because these are the two fields that I have done a little work so far. The Degree Project is a new thing for me..and more unfortunately, I dont know many people who can help me clear my thoughts. Thats why I turned to EE.

One Expert told me to check previous questions posted by others. But I didnt find much.

My college is established very recently. Resources are limited - Literary and Support. That makes it even more difficult to make a choice for such a task which my entire three years of hard work depends on.

Anyways...just thought I had some explaining to do...

Sorry for taking up so much of everybody's time.

Thanks once again...

shireen_shabbir:
Ok.. so lets continue with this. Obviously you have an Internet connection and an interest in WWW (otherwise you would not have frequented that forum). But we do have to know.. how well versed are you in programming (ie Months/Years of experience or what types of programs you have already done).. and in what programming languages may you be learned?

Knowing this will certainly help us discover how large of a project you can hope to take on.. and from there.. hopefully we find something of interest that we can apply your skills to.. <smile>.
