The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Network Engineer needs VB Programmer help!

Asked by GareBear in Visual Basic Programming, WISE

I've not written anything other than a logon script and a batch file or two in my days, however, I need the help of you VB Programmers out there to accomplish this task.

I have been trying to find a "poor admin's" way to copy files to restricted places (\winnt\system32) or run updates (like service packs or MDAC updates) from a batch file/logon script to my NT workstations so I wont have to physically go to every machine.  The problem I can't get around is the security context that the batch file runs in.  It runs in the security context of the user and not with the administrative rights that it needs to accomplish my tasks.

It was suggested to me that I create a program that will poll a local folder for a specific pre-named batch or .cmd file and set it up to run as a service with administrative rights.  Then my logon script could, when necessary, place the batch or .cmd file in this folder and the service would notice and execute the batch/.cmd file which will run the copy or update or whatever in the security context of the service...administrator rights.

Can anyone help me with this?

We are running a NT only shop with SP6a (and IE 5.01 and MDAC 2.1 at the least).

I'd be financially grateful (since other wise I see needing Microsoft's SMS)!!!

Thank you.
