Serial programming in WinXP

I am making some programs that communicates with hardware through the serial ports. This has worked fine earlier (in Win98), but in WinXP i cannot use the MSComm32.ocx. When i try to use it, it says; "License information for this component not found. You do not have an appropriate lincence to use this functionality in the design environment". Do anyone know how i can fix this, or know about an way i can do the communication?
